Shangri-La Development

Nestled within the lush, gentle slopes of picturesque Balata in the Castries quarter of St Lucia, the Shangri-La development aptly inherits its name from the fictional valley of great beauty described in James Hilton’s 1933 novel “Lost Horizons”. In the book, Shangri-La is a “mystical, harmonious valley” in the Kunlun Mountains of the Himalayas – an undefiled paradise where nature and man perfectly co-exist.

And such is the vision for the Shangri-La development of Balata. Designed with privacy and conservation in mind, Shangri-La is fed by the gentle trickle of a natural stream and offers prospective home-owners sweeping views of green-carpeted hillsides, refreshing eastern breezes and the tranquility of a tropical Eden-on-earth.

This residential community consist of eight 2 and 3 bedroom houses, each with a floor plan between 1, 500 to 2, 200 square feet of living space. Large balconies and ideally placed patios will allow residents to fully enjoy the perks of living in a tropical climate, and the wide doors and abundance of windows will guarantee a breezy, naturally ventilated interior. Each house is at a cost of two hundred and eight thousand United States dollars ($208,000.00 USD).

Finished connections to various services including, water power, telephone, fax, cable tv, and internet access are a standard part of the development. All houses are wired to accommodate the installation and easy activation of an electronic security system and are also equipped with a solar water heating system and water storage tank.

Shangri-La is conveniently located off the Allan Bousquet Highway, and allows easy access to the city (approx. 15 minutes) and to Rodney Bay and the North of the island (approx. 30 minutes) via the Castries-Gros Islet Highway.
